古民家の裏にいろいろな花が植えられた生垣を見つけて、カメラを手に取りました。生垣は、イクソラ、ベニバナサンタンカ、または火の玉と呼ばれる赤い花で始まっていました。一般的なものは赤ですが、黄色、オレンジ紫、白のものもあります。イクソラはタイの田舎の生垣の花としてよく見かけます。



花はタイでとても重要な意味があります。『先生の日』というのをこの花を先生に捧げ、賢い知恵を授けてくれるように生徒たちはお祝いします。イクソラは生徒たちをより賢くする花として知られています。タイ語で『ピン』とは「賢い」という意味です。花が咲く前のイクソラはピンのようですから。このように昔の言い伝えがタイでは生きています。



イクソラは500種類からなるアカネ科の花で、熱帯の常緑低木です。熱帯アジアをはじめ、世界の熱帯や亜熱帯で育ちます。3〜6インチ（7.6〜15cm）のガサガサした手触りの葉っぱを持ち、夏には大きな房状の小さな花を咲かせます。





酸性土を好むので盆栽などに適しています。東南アジアでは生垣の花として人気です。熱帯地域では花は一年中咲いていて、ヒンズーの儀式やアーユルヴェーダの薬として利用されたりしています。

Ixora is very common as the hedge in the countryside here in Thailand, close to every house have on.

The flower have an important significance here in Thailand, celebrating the teachers day the students should present the teachers with the Ixora flower for

Ixora is a genus of flowering plants in the Rubiaceae family. It consists of tropical evergreen trees and shrubs and holds around 500 species.
Though native to the tropical and subtropical areas throughout the world, its centre of diversity is in Tropical Asia.
The plants possess leathery leaves, ranging from 3 to 6 inches in length, and produce large clusters of tiny flowers in the summer. Members of Ixora prefer acidic soil, and are suitable choices for bonsai. It is also a popular choice for hedges in parts of South East Asia. In tropical climates they flower year round and are commonly used in Hindu worship and Indian folk medicine.
