From Thailand, バンダ、蘭の中の宝石 (Jonas)

蘭の咲く庭を歩き続けると、バンダという蘭がありました。バンダはラン科で80種くらいからなる属で、市場でもよく見かけます。





香りもよく、長く持つこと、それから珍しい青やピンク色のまるで宝石のような色が美しいので園芸種として人気です。東アジア、東南アジアからニューギニアまで分布しています。





またバンダ（Vanda）という風変わりな名前は、サンスクリット語の「Vandaka（まとわりつく）」が語源だそうです。

We continue our walk in the orchid garden and this time looking at the Vanda orchids . . .
Vanda is a genus in the orchid family (Orchidaceae) which, although not massive (about eighty species), is one of the general more commonly found in the market place. The genus is highly prized in horticulture for its showy, fragrant, long lasting, and intensely colorful flowers. Vanda is widespread across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and New Guinea.
